Welcome to Brasil
Ríe Retreats | Dec 28, 2025 - Jan 3, 2026
Location: Avenida Niemeyer, 550 Casa A, Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro 22450-220, Brazil
Because life’s never that serious… and this New Year’s Eve, we’re celebrating barefoot on the beaches of Rio, surrounded by music, movement, and creative community. 🇧🇷✨
🇧🇷 about rio de janeiro
Rio is rhythm in human form… a place where the energy of samba, the calm of the ocean, and the creativity of its people collide. Known as Cidade Maravilhosa (“The Marvelous City”), Rio is a landscape of mountains and sea, vibrant neighborhoods and rich cultural heritage, spirituality and celebration.
Here, mornings begin with a dip in the Atlantic, afternoons drift to the beat of street drums, and nights glow with music, laughter, and life. It’s a city that doesn’t ask you to look, it asks you to feel.
💡 Cultural Notes
for First-Time Travelers
Language: Don’t worry if you don’t speak Portuguese—some locals speak some English, (Spanish is always a plus if you know it), but we will have locals guides during most excursions to help translate where needed. That said, learning a few Portuguese words goes a long way: Olá (Hello), Tudo bem? (How are you?), Obrigada (Thank you for women). We’ll have bilingual hosts and local guides with us throughout the week to help with translation.
Style & Self-Expression: Rio’s style is effortless, confident, and colorful. People celebrate their bodies and individuality here. You’ll see a beautiful mix of self-expression across the city: from beachwear and flip-flops in Ipanema to effortlessly chic looks in Santa Teresa’s art streets. Pack light, breathable pieces that let you dance, wander, and stretch with ease. Evenings in Rio carry a relaxed glamour, so pack one or two outfits that make you feel effortlessly radiant, especially for our New Year’s Eve celebration, where local tradition calls for wearing white to welcome renewal and abundance (and if you’re feeling playful, slip on yellow underwear - believed to bring good luck for the year ahead). Dress in what feels authentic to you: Rio’s rhythm is about freedom, expression, and ease — not perfection.
Safety & Security: Rio is vibrant and welcoming, but like any major city, it requires awareness. Most retreat activities take place in safe, locally connected areas with Ríe team guidance, but travel smart: leave valuables at home, carry only essentials in a secure bag, and keep phones and wallets close. Avoid wandering alone at night, and always use registered taxis or rideshares (our team can help coordinate). On the beach, bring only what you need and swim with someone keeping an eye on your belongings. Use ATMs inside banks or shopping centers, and avoid street machines. Trust your instincts, stay connected with the group, but don’t let fear cloud your experience… locals are overwhelmingly warm, helpful, and proud to share their city. Approach people with respect, and you’ll find that same energy reflected back.

Travel flow & retreat guide
Each day includes morning yoga & journaling, a cultural excursion or creative workshop, and 3+ hours of free time for you to rest, wander, or connect. You’ll receive a full daily schedule two weeks before departure. You’ll be added to a private WhatsApp group before the retreat to meet your fellow travellers and get travel tips. Ríe team is always available for support, before, during, and after your trip.
spending money & cash vs. card
Outside of retreat programming, meals & activities we recommended you bring an additional $150–$300 USD (This depends on your shopping habits & how often you eat out). We advise you bring a mix of cash & card. Most beach vendors are cash-only. You can withdraw Brazilian Reais (BRL) at ATMs upon arrival. Make sure to call your bank for travel advisory. Visa & Mastercard work at modern cafés & restaurants.

final note from our founder:
As we gear up for this journey together, here’s your gentle reminder: this retreat is more than a vacation… it’s a reset, a rhythm, a chance to start the new year in motion.
We didn’t come all this way just to snap the perfect photo for the 'gram or tick Brazil off a bucket list. We came to FEEL something, to get inspired, to connect deeply with ourselves, to each other, to laugh until we cry, and to see the world through a different lens.
Rio has its own tempo, one that teaches presence, ease, and trust in the moment. Plans may shift, the weather might surprise us, but that’s part of the beauty. We go with it. We adapt. We find the rhythm beneath the noise and let it carry us. Traveling, especially in a place as vibrant and layered as Rio de Janeiro, is full of magic, music, and sometimes… a bit of mayhem.
We've curated this itinerary with intention, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure your experience is joyful, meaningful, and smooth. But when things don't go according to plan (and at some point, they won’t) flow with it. Embrace the detours. Laugh at the delays and trust that sometimes the unplanned moments become the most unforgettable. Just keep showing up with curiosity, compassion, and care for one another. The energy we each bring shapes the collective experience.
This is your invitation to live the week moment by moment. To unplug, connect, and be fully here. Welcome to Rio. Welcome to the flow. I’m so honored to have you on this journey.
